‘Activate’ Exhibition
Unit 8, Media Works, White City Place, W12 7TQ
5 – 18th June 2024

The ‘Activate’ exhibition transformed a vacant retail space into a curatorial experiment. It showcases works by an eclectic assemblage of artists, designers, makers, storytellers, and theorists from the RCA Graduate Diploma staff team. The exhibition was made possible by the first fully collaborative initiative between RCA and the White City Place Development.
The Graduate Diploma is a multidisciplinary programme spanning Fine Art, Design, Fashion & Textiles, Communications, and Research. Grad Dip staff share methods and practices from these fields with a student body of over 45 nationalities, many of whom have taken unconventional routes into the creative industries.
The title ‘Activate’ initially came from terminology associated with space and the transfer of activity related to the retail and letting sector. Over six weeks, this storefront was a flexible vehicle to curate diverse outputs and interventions. The exhibitors aim to expand how academic research activities and outputs can be reciprocally shared and nourished—‘activated’—by building bridges with local business and creative communities.
