RE-

RE- is the title for a new collaborative publication project with @metapoiesis_richard_nash and colleagues and practitioners from the Royal College of Art. The project began as an idea and set of processes with which to examine the possibility of finding an appropriate approach to the notion of publishing self – inherent in my sketchbook practice. The first stage was copying and collating a selection of sketchbook pages spanning fifteen years. These were then duplexed and bound without imposition, and this process revealed new chance combinations of tone and composition. The facsimile edition was then re-visited, re-edited, and re-worked and, from this, created the concept for the working title RE as both act and process based on the etymological root of the prefix.

re- | Meaning of prefix re- by etymonline

RE: word-forming element meaning “back, back from, back to the original place;” also “again, anew, once more,” also conveying the notion of “undoing” or “backward,” …

I have been excited to receive my version of one of eight handbound books. This iteration launches the next part of the project inviting practitioners and colleagues: @metapoiesis_richard_nash @annajbeel @isabelyoungart @kyung_hwa_shon @adamrknight @susannaheloise @garyclough @alkesh_london to review and respond with creative writing interpretations and creative interventions to interpret the etymology of the RE as a prefix. The outcomes will be collected together, and then working with Richard Nash, we will collate and curate into the final artists’ book, which we hope to launch in May/June 2022.
